Field Day offers Tour of Lethbridge Research Centre and Organic Farm

LETHBRIDGE – Organic Alberta is co-hosting afield day in the Lethbridge area on Monday.

The day will start off with a tour of the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre to check out their research plots.

A team of researchers will present their work related to sustainable crop production. Topics will include weed biocontrol, integrated pest management, plant disease resistance, soil health and nutrient management.

After lunch, the group will tour Leffers Organic Farm to hear how the brothers are using diverse crop rotations and green manures to mitigate weeds and build soil fertility.

The farm has been certified organic since 2004 and produces wheat, alfalfa, dry beans, carrots and red beets.

The day will run from 9am to 4pm and costs $25, which includes lunch.
