LETHBRIDGE – Canadian Business and PROFIT magazine has placed Lethbridge as number four on the 2016 ranking of Canada’s Best Places for Business.

Produced by two of the country’s best-known business media outlets, the 2016 Canada’s Best Places for Business ranking, uses factors in more than 20 indicators, including cost, market trends and business friendliness, collected from various sources and participating municipalities.

This list aims to identify those communities that strike an optimal balance between prosperous markets, reasonable costs and business-friendly taxation and regulation.

According to the results, Lethbridge is an entrepreneurial, integrated science and engineering environment with plenty of restaurant “expertise.”

Among the 219 communities that were analyzed, the city also snagged a second in the Most Business-Friendly category.

Trevor Lewington, Chief Executive Officer Economic Development Lethbridge, credits the city’s success to a diverse economy and strong agricultural sector.

“Fundamentally, Lethbridge is doing relatively well. We have the lowest unemployment in the province and housing-starts haven’t dropped as much as other communities in the province. The city is still seeing a strong surge in investment in new business start-ups and population growth,” he said.

Mayor Chris Spearman said that Lethbridge’s ranking illustrates strong community collaboration, but that the city needs to continue to provide high levels of support and service to sustain success in supporting existing business and attracting new investment in the city.

Lewington, cited the city’s post-secondary opportunities as a contributing factor for entrepreneurs looking to take a chance on young workers.

The Canadian Business and PROFIT ranking is designed to help entrepreneurs and executives make smarter decisions on where to start, expand or relocate their enterprises.
