Aug 13, 2016 | 9:38 AM

LETHBRIDGE – On Aug 12, at 9:30 p.m. Lethbridge Police attended Winston Villa Apartments, on 13 Street North at 23 Avenue North, in an attempt to arrest 20-year-old Dylan Sokol, of Lethbridge, who had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Lethbridge Police Sgt. Trevor Sheppard, who was present at the scene, said that when police tried to arrest Sokol he fled back into the building and locked himself into his apartment.

Police reported that LPS attempted to negotiate with Sokol in hopes that he would vacate the building. When Sokol did not comply, he was then considered a “Barricading Person,” which resulted in a Tactical Team being called in.

There were no injuries to police or to Sokol and LPS was present at the scene for approximately two hours.

Police report that Sokol is well known to police and had 40 warrants for his arrest issued by the LPS and the Lethbridge RCMP.

Sokol is currently in custody for a bail hearing for multiple firearms offences, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, breach of release conditions and failing to attend court.
