LETHBRIDGE:   With the 2016 season quickly approaching, the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s rugby team and head coach Ric Suggitt are pleased to announce the signing of Southern Alberta High School Rugby League (SAHSRL) All-Star Sevedyn Westrop.

“Well to be honest I wasn’t quite sure that Sevedyn would attend the U of L and play rugby for the ‘Horns,” said Suggitt.  “Sevedyn had quality choices so her choosing U of L speaks volumes about the institution.”

A multi-sport athlete, Westrop was named a SAHSRL all-star this past season at outside centre and helped lead the LCI Clippers to a Provincial bronze medal. During the regular season, she led the Clippers in tries with seven scores in six games.

“We are fortunate to have so many alumni coaching at LCI in assisting in Sevedyn’s development as a rugby player,” said Suggitt.

She also played basketball and volleyball at LCI and was named the Outstanding Grade 12 Female Athlete and was co-MVP for the rugby team.

“While scouting and observing Sevedyn play high school rugby it was totally apparent that she oozes raw athletic ability,” continued Suggitt.  “I believe now that when she immerses herself into our rugby program she will become a top-flight rugby player.”

The ‘Horns announced recruiting class now sits at eight with earlier announcements of SAHSRL MVP Abby Neudorf, MiKhi Lagemaat, Julianna Cornish, Caitlin Sears, Caitlin Purcell and U18 National team members Keegan Brantner and Sydney De La Mare.

“I cannot emphasize enough when I point out that we have been able to attract athletes like Sevedyn Westrop, Abby Neudorf, Caitlin Sears and Sydney De La Mare to name a few, that are full of character and integrity,” concluded Suggitt on the team’s recruiting class. “These kinds of people will begin to solidify the foundation for the next 5 years.”

The ‘Horns will host the 2016 Canada West Championships October 21 -23.
