Alberta Government and Doctors Agree to Changes to Improve Health Care

Sep 1, 2016 | 7:35 AM

EDMONTON – Alberta and the group representing the province’s doctors have agreed to amend their existing agreement to stress shared responsibility in providing health care while saving money.

The tentative deal was reached after months of talks between the government and the Alberta Medical Association.

It must still be ratified by the province’s 10,000 physicians.

The proposal would make changes to a master agreement that doesn’t expire until 2018.

The changes include a plan to put doctors in communities that need them and to improve primary care and information sharing.

It also aims to compensate doctors for time and quality of care given to patients not just for the number of services provided.
