CBSA Officers Find 11 Undeclared Guns in Two Days at Coutts Border

Sep 1, 2016 | 11:25 AM

COUTTS – Last weekend was a busy one for officers at the Coutts border, as they seized 11 firearms in three separate incidents on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 26 and 27).

The biggest came while officers were searching a moving truck as part of a routine examination. Inside they found an AR-15 assault rifle, three .380-calibre pistols, a 20-guage shotgun, a .308-calibre rifle, a .22-calibre rifle, and two air rifles with a velocity over 500 feet per second, all of which were undeclared.

A .45-calibre revolver then turned up during a search of a pickup truck, and officers found a .40-calibre handgun in a car.

The trio of busts comes just days after the Canada Border Services Agency launched a campaign to remind American travellers to declare all firearms at the border.

Charges are pending against the individuals in each case, with all three scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on October 19.
