CALGARY – Calgary Flames fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the club has locked up leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau just days before the opening of the 2016-17 regular season.

The team announced Monday (Oct. 10) that they signed the 23-year old restricted free agent to a six year contract extension, with various media outlets reporting a salary cap hit of $6.75 million.

The contract for the Salem, New Jersey native and 2011 fourth round draft pick will buy one year of unrestricted free agency.

Gaudreau led the Flames in goals (30), assists (48) and points (78) during the 2015-16 campaign, finishing tied for sixth in NHL scoring.
