Hurricanes keep impressive point streak alive in OT loss to Blazers

LETHBRIDGE – The five-game winning streak may have ended for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, but their point streak is alive and well at 13 (11-0-2-0) games, as they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Kamloops Blazers Wednesday (Dec. 14) night.

The loss will likely come as a frustrating setback for the club that has been red hot since a road trip to the U.S. in mid November ignited their run of strong play.

Brett Davis got things started for the Hurricanes, scoring his second of the season early in the first. Egor Babenko would add his 10th on the power-play with under a minute to go in the second period, giving the team a 2-0 cushion with only 20 minutes left to play.

The tide would turn dramatically in the final frame.

After outshooting the Blazers 23-15 through the first two periods, Canes netminder Stuart Skinner was under siege in the third and overtime, as the Blazers posted a 14-4 shot advantage – aided in part by three Lethbridge penalties in the first 10 minutes of the third.

Despite the loss, the team sits second in the Central Division standings with a three-point edge over third place Red Deer. They are 18-11-3-2 with only two games until they reach the mid-point of the 2016/17 season.

Next up is a game in Edmonton on Friday (Dec. 16) to take on the Oil Kings. After that the Hurricanes will have 10 days off for Christmas, before playing a quick home-and-home with the Kootenay Ice that will start in Cranbrook on December 27th and end in Lethbridge the next day.
