LETHBRIDGE –  The Hurricanes went into Tuesday night’s game against Brandon on a four game winning streak, after downing Prince Alberta 5-4 and Saskatoon on a weekend road trip.  The team added to the win streak with a 4-3 shootout win over Brandon at the Enmax.

The game didn’t start out on a positive note, with Brandon’s Tanner Kaspick lobbed a power play goal at the 14-minute mark of the first frame.  Team Captain Nolan Patrick had the Wheaties up 2-0 just three minutes later.

The Canes came out hard in the second period with Egor Babenko getting the team on the scoreboard, assisted by Jordy Bellerive and Zak Zborosky.  It was another 12 minutes before Matt Alfaro notched his first goal as a Hurricane to tie the game.

Before the end of the second, Brandon’s Reid Duke added a goal and put his team ahead 3-2.

The lone goal in the third period came off the stick of Tyler Wong, assisted by Igor Merezhko and Ryan Gilchrist. Shortly after, team Captains Tyler Wong and Nolan Patrick dropped the mitts and got into a fight.  The pair were handed five minute majors.

The teams played out a scoreless over-time. At one point, Brandon had a 4-3 advantage because of a high sticking call against Brennan Mennel.

The loan shootout goal came from Giorgio Estephan on Brandon’s Logan Thompson.

The Canes are 29-15-4-3 in the standings and take on the Rebels in Red Deer on Wednesday night.
