LETHBRIDGE –  A home ice win on a special night for the Hurricanes. The team honored the 96/97 Championship Team with a pregame ring ceremony and re-raised the 1997 league champion banner before action got underway against Moose Jaw.

By the end of the game, fire power from each team offered up 31 shots-on-goal.  However, it was Stuart Skinner who was the shining star, turning aside all the Warrior shots on the way to a Canes’ 3-0 shutout in a penalty riddled game.

The home team was first on the scoreboard, half way through a somewhat quiet first frame, as Tyler Wong tipped in his 38th of the season on a pass from Egor Babenko.

Between the first goal and the additional two in the game’s last minute of play was a long tally of penalty minutes – 52 for the Warriors and 40 for the Canes.

There wasn’t much action in the second period, but the scene changed one minute into the third. Both teams racked up a succession of minor penalties for cross checking, slashing, roughing and interference. With one minute left in regulation, the Canes Brennan Menell lobbed in the insurance goal on the Warriors’ empty net.  From that point, a brawl ensued with five separate fights.

On the Warriors side, it was Brett Howden, Tanner Jeannot and Dimitri Zaitsev were tagged with five minute majors for fighting, while Zane Franklin, Jason Joseph, Igor Merezhko, Tanner Nagel and Brady Pouteau picked up the penalties for the Canes.

With 20 seconds remaining, Egor Babenko had the score at 3-0 on another empty-netter. The game ended with two more fights, leading to a game Misconduct for the Warriors Josh Thrower and a five minute major for Jett Woo while the Canes Jordy Bellerive picked up a five minute major as well.

Not a pretty sight to end the game but, a win nonetheless which puts the Canes at 31-15-4-3.

The Hurricanes remain six points back of the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Central Division. The team’s next game in Wednesday night in Red Deer
