Seedy Saturday about to plant roots in Lethbridge

Mar 23, 2017 | 2:59 PM

LETHBRIDGE  – With spring bulbs already poking their green shoots through what remains of the snow, gardeners are looking to get a jump-start on planting.

With that in mind, Environment Lethbridge is sponsoring the City’s first Seedy Saturday.

The event is free and runs from 1:00 until 4:00 on Saturday (March 25th), at Southminster United Church, at 1011, 4th Avenue South.

Seedy Saturday will feature an array of exhibitors including Wildrose Heritage Seeds, and representatives from a nursery, Earthly Matters Vermiculture and Chelsea Sherbut, from Lethbridge Bee Enthusiasts, who will offer information on how to make your garden a bee paradise.

The Lethbridge Horticultural Society will host an ‘Ask-a-Gardener’ table to help with   gardening questions and there will be information on how to start plants from cuttings.

There will also be a free seed and garden tool swap, so those who attend are encouraged to bring their extras for swapping and sharing.

More than 100 Seedy Saturday events take place across the country each year, and offer an opportunity for residents to learn about environmentally friendly garden practices, while sharing of ideas and expertise.
