OTTAWA –  A program to teach young people about agriculture is getting a boost of over half-a-million dollars from Ottawa.

Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced the one-year investment for Agriculture in the Classroom Canada last Friday.

The money will develop and deliver educational resources about the agriculture and agri-food sector to primary and secondary students across the country, and will promote career opportunities in the sector.

Agriculture in the Classroom Canada’s programs are delivered through its provincial member organizations, such as agriculture Alberta.

Teachers are using school based horticulture for everything from offering information on gardening to teaching kids about healthy food choices.
