Palliser School District selects candidate for permanent Superintendent Position

Aug 15, 2017 | 1:41 PM

LETHBRIDGE – The Palliser School District has selected a candidate to take over the position of Superintendent, after former Superintendent Kevin Gietz’s contract was terminated last February.

A motion was passed Tuesday (August 14), by the School District’s Board of Trustees to immediately offer a contract to the unnamed person.

Under the School Act, the candidate of choice can’t be named and no other details about the person can be released, until approval is granted by Alberta Education.

If and when that does occur, the board is hoping to have the new superintendent in place as quickly as possible.

Calgary’s Boyden Canada, an internationlly recognized recruitment agency, was paid a flat rate of $50,000 plus expenses to complete the search, which began last May.

The candidate of choice was selected by the firm, and went through a series interviews.

Community stakeholders were also invited to provide feedback both in person, and online.

In the interim, Dr. Garry Andrews has been the temporary Acting Superintendent.
