Downtown parking meter replacement put on hold until early 2018

LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge will not be installing new parking meters in the downtown area until early 2018, with an anticipated spring launch.

In a report presented to City Council on Monday, August 28, submitted by Infrastructure Services Director Doug Hawkins, the procurement process took longer than expected because of the number of propsals received, and the complexity of the technology.

A company has since been chosen, but the meters won’t be available until late October, meaning installation would extend into the winter months.

Instead, Hawkin’s report says concrete work in preparation will begin soon, and the city will try to get one demonstration meter installed over the wintertime, so residents can see how the new system will operate.
