Six rail cars carrying crude oil derail at Coalhurst

COALHURST –  CP Rail is dealing with a six car derailment at the Kipp marshalling yards in Coalhurst.  Global TV Lethbridge reports CP Rail confirmed the derailment occurred at 8:30 Friday night.

The six cars are carrying crude oil and Coalhurst Fire Chef Mat Conte has stated four of the cars remained upright, while one of the cars was leaking.

There are no reports of injuries and Conte says there is no threat to public safety.

CP immediately implemented its emergency response protocols and mobilized teams to the site.” An investigation has been initiated and all required notifications have been made.

Around 1:30 Saturday morning, Alberta Emergency Alert reported CP Rail had been able to stop the leak.  Emergency crews remained on scene as a precaution while CP Rail crews manage the incident.
