LETHBRIDGE – After two years of hard work, students and parents at Agnes Davidson Elementary School finally have a brand new playground for the community to enjoy.

At an official ribbon cutting ceremony Friday (Oct. 6), Michael Boh, Volunteer Project Manager, said seeing the completed structure was incredible.

“It just all finally came together. It’s officially Lethbridge’s largest playground and the first dragon park.

“We really wanted to incorporate the school’s mascot [Aggie]…we wanted to brand it like that and brought in really cool designs and ideas that really brought a lot of play value.”

The playground includes fully accessible play structures to ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone, and has a rubberized surface made from 12,000 recycled tires.

Total cost of the project was between $625,000 and $650,000 with large donations coming from the Provincial Government, City of Lethbridge, businessman Cor Van Raay, and numerous other local organizations and businesses, along with private donors.

The former wooden play park was dismantled and sent to the southern Alberta Make a Wish Foundation so it could be refurbished.

It will then be given to the Lundbreck Hutterite Colony to help a little girl socialize and play with rest of the community.
