Project Connect looking for donations to help the less fortunate

Oct 20, 2017 | 4:08 PM

LETHBRIDGE – A community donation drive will go ahead on Saturday (Oct. 21), as part of an effort to end homelessness.

Project Connect is partnering with Nitsis’skoowaaniksi “Unity in Services” – which will hold a sister event in Stand Off in mid-November – to collect donated items (See list below) for those at risk in the community.

Saturday’s event will be in Rotary Square at CASA, located at 230-8 Street South from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The items collected will then be distributed on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fritz Sick Memorial Centre, 420-11 Street South, with the event in Stand Off going from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Centre on Nov. 17.

In addition to helping those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, Project Connect is also aimed at supporting those who are living paycheck to paycheck and living in unsafe or overcrowded conditions.

It’s anticipated that this year’s event will serve more than 400 people.

Resources will also be available to those in need during the event. Those include access to Legal Guidance support; assistance with income tax preparations; housing referrals; victim/crisis counselling; employment, income and health care services; information on services for youth, seniors and immigrants; referrals for clothing vouchers and other necessities.
