LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge Police have charged 29-year-old Jonathan Alexander Kogler in connection with a home invasion on Tuesday (Nov. 14).

Police responded to a report about a man with a firearm who had allegedly broken into a home along the 500 block of 12 Street South, threatened a man and a woman and demanded cash and drugs around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The gun was fired inside the home, and then the suspect fled the residence when one of the occupants managed to identify him.

No one was injured during the incident.

Following further investigation, police say they attended a home along the 600 block of 12 Street South where they contained the residence and the area was cordoned off as a precaution.

Police negotiators were able to make contact with Kogler, and he was taken into custody without incident.

This was not a random incident according to police, as the suspect and victims were known to one another.

Kogler is facing one count each of robbery with a firearm, careless use/storage of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, intentional and reckless discharge of a firearm, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, disguised during the commission of an offence and housebreaking with intent.

He’s currently remanded in custody, and is awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
