LETHBRIDGE – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have named 18-year-old Jordy Bellerive as their captain, following the trade that sent Giorgio Estephan to Swift Current.

Bellerive has 24 goals and 30 assists so far this season, along with 44 penalty minutes. His career includes 146 points in 174 games, after he was drafted second overall by the Hurricanes in 2014.

“He’s a great leader and works hard on and off the ice and he approaches the game as a pro,” head coach Brent Kisio said of the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, who hails from North Vancouver, in a news release. “As a coach, he’s the type of leader you want and as a player he’s the type of player you’d want as well.”

Igor Merezhko and Tate Olson are full-time alternate captains, while Zane Franklin and Ty Prefontaine will alternate wearing an A as well. Bellerive is the 26th captain in franchise history.
