Police have suspect in custody relating to vehicle theft

LETHBRIDGE  ***Up-Date, as of 9:30 Friday, Feburary 2.   LPS indicates they have a suspect in custody, in relation to this case. The investigation continues and more information will be released when available.

 

City Police are investigating the robbery of a truck, in which the owner confronted the alleged thief and was injured as the vehicle sped away.

Around 5:23 on Thursday (Feb 1) afternoon, officers were called to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on 2-A Avenue North, to deal with the report of a stolen White Chevrolet Silverado.

The owner of the truck had parked the vehicle near the pumps and went inside the gas bar. As he left the store, he saw an unknown man get inside. The owner jumped onto the driver’s side running board, in an attempt to get the thief to stop, but the vehicle fled causing the owner to collide with a parked vehicle before he fell off.

The owner was examined by EMS but did not require further medical treatment, and police located the truck a short time later.

The suspect is a white male, in his mid-40s. He was wearing a shirt with the buttons undone, a black jacket with a teal blue hoodie underneath, blue jeans and black shoes.
