TABER – While the warmup over the weekend was enjoyed by many people, it did not help the overland flood situation in the M.D. of Taber.

Late Sunday, April 15, the municipal district issued a public safety notice warning people to obey and not tamper with road barricades. It has also released a lengthy list of rural road closures due to the flooding. At one point Saturday, Highway 36 was closed between Taber and Vauxhall, but has since reopened.

The advisory also warns people that flooded wells and cisterns should not be used and are to be considered contaminated. The flood has the potential to impact public and personal safety and property.

While there are no mandatory evacuation orders, the situation could change rapidly, the M.D. warned. For people who have self-evacuated, a reception centre has been set up at the Heritage Inn in Taber. The Red Cross is there providing registration and support services.
