Flooding still affecting rural roads, as crews plan repairs

LETHBRIDGE – Several States of Local Emergency remain in effect for rural areas around southern Alberta, due to flooding from overland drainage.
The Municipal District of Taber said Thursday, April 19 that southern areas are seeing flows drop, but the levels are rising in northern parts of the district. Crews continue to mitigate flood damage and plan for the days to come. Damaged roads are being evaluated for repair, and many roads remain closed.
In Vulcan County, many roads remain closed as well. Conditions vary from heavy rutting to a complete washout, to impassable due to water flowing over the surface.
County of Forty Mile continued to deal with road closures mostly in the western part of the region. A few roads have reopened. The county tweeted a photo showing the damage caused by flooding to a road and warned drivers not to use water-covered roads.
