SUV and cattle liner collision sends six kids to hospital

Apr 27, 2018 | 1:08 PM

PICTURE BUTTE —   All six occupants of an SUV were sent to hospital Thursday (Apr 26) afternoon, after the vehicle they were in collided with a loaded cattle liner.

The incident happened just before 5:30 on Range Road 22-1, 1 km south of Township Road 10-2, near Diamond City.

While Picture Butte RCMP continue to investigate, initial findings have determined the cattle liner was northbound on Range Road 22-1.  The road had recently graded, which created a large dust cloud behind the semi, causing low visibility.

The cattle liner slowed to turn left into a local feedlot which resulted in the northbound SUV striking the rear end of the loaded semi.

Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the collision. However, some of the SUV occupants were not wearing seatbelts.

The SUV contained six young people between the ages of 8 and 16 years of age, who were all injured and sent to the Regional Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The 57-year old male driver and lone occupant of the semi was not injured and his cargo was safely off loaded.
