Bottles 4 Boulet fundraiser to benefit family of the late Humboldt Broncos defenceman

LETHBRIDGE – An 8th grade student-athlete at Wilson Middle School in Lethbridge wants to do his part after hearing all the stories about the tragedy of the Humboldt Bronco’s bus crash.

While the GoFundMe Account has raised millions to help those affected, Ryker Morrell wanted to do something to help out a little closer to home.

Morrell realized one of the crash victims was a local Lethbridge resident named Logan Boulet, and further realized that Logan’s parents were both teachers within the Lethbridge School District.

When he read Boulet’s obituary, Morrell saw that his parents had set up a Logan Boulet Fund through Kidsport, and that’s where he came up with an idea.

Morrell says he wanted to find a way to get Lethbridge residents to help support the Kidsport initiative and came up with the idea for a bottle drive.

All the proceeds will be going to the Logan Boulet Fund, and that’s how “Bottles 4 Boulet” was born.

With the help of his principal, teachers, and his parents, and with the approval of the Boulet family, Morrell created the posters, called the local bottle depot, started a Facebook donation page, and set his plan in motion.

His hope is that this fundraiser is so successful, that he will continue it annually as long as he is a student, and that someone will pick up the torch for him when he eventually graduates from high school.

This year’s Bottles 4 Boulet fundraiser will run from April 30 to May 5. Bottles or cash/check donations can be dropped off during school hours at Wilson Middle School and people can also take their bottles to either Ability Resource Centre bottle depot and specify the bottles are to be donated to Wilson Middle School, or they can donate directly through the Facebook page.
