Champion grocery store owner pleads guilty to sexual assault

May 3, 2018 | 12:20 PM

CHAMPION – The owner of a grocery store in Champion, south of Vulcan, has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault, in a bizarre incident that was caught on video surveillance in August, 2017.

According to a Crown statement in Lethbridge Provincial Court, last August 26 around 7 p.m., a woman entered Hyowan Lim’s grocery store to do some shopping.

Lim approached the woman, and attempted to kiss her. He followed her though the store as she was shopping, pressing himself up against her, touching her genital area and telling her “I can’t help myself.”

The Crown told the court the woman clearly said “no” to Lim, but he continued his advances.

Video surveillance on the premises corroborates the woman’s account of the incident.

The woman then paid for her groceries and left to report the matter to Vulcan RCMP.

The judge in the case accepted Lim’s guilty plea and ordered a pre-sentencing report.

The matter has now been adjourned until July 3, 2018.
