COALDALE -- A single vehicle collision early Wednesday (May 16) evening resulted in the deaths of three people south of Coaldale.   The incident happened around 6:30 on Highway 845, just south of Highway-4.

Coaldale RCMP determined a northbound minivan on Highway 845 drove off of the highway on a curve just before the CP Rail tracks. The minivan hit a deep ditch striking with significant impact on the north bank and came to a rest on the rail tracks.

Police note the speed zone transitioned just south of the collision area from 100 km/p/h to 65 km/p/h.

Three elderly occupants in the minivan all died at the scene from impact type injuries. The man and two women are believed to be from the Raymond area. Next of kin notifications are ongoing and names will not be released.

The Canadian Pacific Railway Police attended the scene and Highway 845 was closed for a short period of time to allow emergency personnel to complete their duties. However, there was minimal traffic disruption.
