LETHBRIDGE – $26,000 has been donated to the Lethbridge Meals on Wheels program, after the 9th annual Teamwork Training Ltd. “23 Days of Christmas” Fundraiser in late 2017.

Owner and Director Ryan Miller says it’s the largest one-year donation the company has been able to provide.

“It puts us right around the $200,000 mark for the campaign since the start of it.”

The Lethbridge Meals on Wheels program has been running since 1970. It’s a non-profit organization that operates on city grants, community grants and client service fees.

It’s now managed by the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization.

Marlene Van Eden oversees the program, which serves anywhere from 65 to 90 people, depending on the time of year.

She says the donation will go a long way.

“It helps in so many ways…we’ve been able to keep the costs down. Even though food prices have gone up, we’ve never had to increase any of the costs in regard to the Meals on Wheels program.

Lethbridge City Councillor and Executive Director of the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, Rob Miyashiro, says it’s a huge boost for them.

“So, this money allows us to focus on supporting the people who receive the meals as well as keeping the price down. So, it’s a win-win.”

He also explained that it allows them to reach further into the community to access and support isolated seniors or those who are homebound.

In 48-years of operation, the Meals on Wheels program has never missed a delivery date.
