Construction could start next spring on Coaldale RCMP building

COALDALE – Representatives of the Town of Coaldale are eager to see work begin in the spring of 2019 on the new regional RCMP detachment.

Chief administrative officer Kalen Hastings says that’s the latest information they’ve been given, and they’re excited to see it proceed.

“With respect to timelines, I’m given to understand that the building will go out to tender in fall 2018, with construction to commence in early spring 2019,” Hastings said in an interview.

Hastings explained a development permit worth $14 million was taken out by the architectural firm on behalf of the federal government in March. The site, which has been purchased by the federal government, is along Highway 3 on the east side of the bedroom community.

“It’ll be great for the community once it’s constructed. There’ll be over 50 jobs working out of that building, so it’ll carry huge economic spinoffs for our community,” he said.

“The presence will be significantly heightened, which we’re quite excited about.”
