EDMONTON — Data from Environment Canada show last month was the hottest May on record in Edmonton.

The department says the average daily temperature for the Alberta capital was more than four degrees above normal, based on records that date back 137 years.

Along with the heat, Edmonton also got just a quarter of normal rainfall for the month, making it the 11th driest May for the city.

Red Deer, Fort McMurray, High Level, Fort Vermilion and Lloydminster also experienced their warmest May, while Calgary Lethbridge and Grande Prairie had their second-hottest May.
