Crude spills in derailment near Red Deer

RED DEER – A seven-car train derailment spilled crude oil and disrupted traffic south of Red Deer Friday, June 8.

According to Blackfalds RCMP, the Canadian Pacific cars were carrying crude oil and one was leaking as a result of the derailment. No evacuations have been needed as the location of this is in a rural non-residential area, police say.

Members of Alberta Highways, Environmental Services, Hazardous materials and emergency services remained on scene.

No injuries are reported. CP Police are leading the investigation, no other information is available at this time when updates are available an additional release will be provided.
