Record setting farm income stats for 2017

Jun 14, 2018 | 3:17 PM

EDMONTON —  Alberta posted very positive farm income numbers in 2017 and even set several records.

For the very first time, the province cashed in above the $14 billion mark, at $14.1 billion, which equates to a 4.5 per cent increase over 2016.

The increase can be credited to higher Farm Cash Receipts (FCR), which includes crop and livestock market receipts plus program payments to producers.

Among all provinces, Alberta ranked first in total farm cash receipts. The province ranked second to Saskatchewan in net cash income, realized net income and total net income.

Alberta also accounted for 22.9 per cent of the national farm receipts total of $61.6 Billion.

For the first quarter of this year, Alberta was second to Saskatchewan in total farm cash receipts.

Roy Larsen, senior statistician with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, has compiled the Alberta highlights from the Statistics Canada release on the province’s 2017 Farm Income Estimates.
