Donation from private industry bolsters local farm safety program

RAYMOND, AB —  The Farm Safety Centre in Raymond has received a financial boost for its programs.

As part of its “Growing Today, Leading Tomorrow” program Corteva Agriscience, which is the Agriculture Division of Dow-DuPont, has donated $5,000 to the Farm Safety Centre.

The grant from Corteva will be used to fund a farm safety education program which has eight regional instructors who travel to more than 500 public, separate and colony schools across Alberta. Between 50,000 and 60,000 students living in rural and remote areas receive Safety Smarts programming each school year.

The money will help us offset travel costs so that the centre can reach as many students as possible with the program.

Corteva Agriscience safety supervisor, Milena Deacon, endorsed the grant.

“We hear of close calls and farm-related fatalities in rural communities and realize how important it is for students to receive consistent best practices instruction, and Corteva Agriscience is proud to support the Farm Safety Centre’s efforts to bring life-saving messages and education to students.”

Laura Nelson, executive director at the Farm Safety Centre in Raymond, says all of their Safety Smart instructors know and understand farm life, so they have a great deal of credibility and passion for helping keep children safe.
