Search underway for youth reportedly swept into Oldman River

LETHBRIDGE – UPDATE: The Lethbridge Police Service is reporting that the search for the missing male has been suspended for the night and will resume in the morning.

Emergency crews were called to the Oldman River in Alexander Wilderness Park and Pavan Park, after a youth was reportedly swept under the water Friday evening, July 6.

Lethbridge Police confirmed that they are involved in the search and rescue operation north of the city, after receiving the call.

On scene witness reports indicate the youth is a 14-year-old boy, however police could not confirm the age.

They have deployed a drone to assist in the effort and are working with the Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services’ Water Rescue Team.

At this time police are asking that you avoid the area. They also noted that an update will be provided to the public as soon as possible.
