Bulls lose at Yorkton; Mayo named Player of the Week

YORKTON, Sask. – The Lethbridge Bulls fell just short, losing to the Yorkton Cardinals 6-5 on Monday, July 9.

The Bulls tied the game in the eighth inning, but Yorkton drove in the winning run with a double by Griffey Halle in the bottom of the ninth. Lethbridge actually outhit the Cardinals 10-3, but Bulls pitchers gave up eight walks.

Reliever Chris Stodolka was tagged with the loss after giving up the winning run. Starter Chris Messer only lasted two innings, giving up four runs on one hit and five walks.

The Bulls are now 12-19, as they head to Melville to wrap up their Saskatchewan trip with a pair of games against the Millionaires, starting Tuesday, July 10.

Mayo’s bat brings honours

Bulls outfielder Lachlan Mayo was named WMBL Player of the Week prior to Monday’s game. Mayo, who hails from Sydney, Australia, had 13 hits, including three home runs, with 13 runs and seven runs batted in.

Mayo’s teammate, third baseman Dylan Borman, received an honourable mention. Borman had 13 hits, including two home runs and three doubles, scoring seven runs and driving in 10.
