Stalking Wheat with a Barley chaser?

LETHBRIDGE —   The Alberta Wheat Commission has teamed up with Farming Smarter for an event on Thursday, July 19th that’s simply called “WheatStalk.”
 
The entire day will be devoted to learning about wheat pest management, agronomy, input and technology and includes continuing education credits.
 
Instructional segments throughout thee day will include information on beneficial insects and the insects you have to watch out for, as well as fusarium management, precision spot spraying, and infrared sensor technology, among others.
 
The different topics will include “With a little help from my friends” from Haley Catton, Ken Coles will deal with “Flour power”, Brian Beres has a segment on “Power to the Wheat”, Randy Kutcher has a handle on “Groovy Rotations’, Travis Albrecht’s topic is “Just Weed-it” and Sheri Strydhors will deal with the topic “Make love not war”.
 
The day of begins at 8:00-am and runs until 3:00-pm at the Farming Smarter field site on the Jail Road.
 
So, where does the ‘Barley chaser” come in?
 
Near the end of the day, at 2:30, those who attend can take a break with in the ‘beer’ tent and then release some energy at the axe throwing activity.
