Street sweeping wraps up, with slightly fewer parking tickets issued

LETHBRIDGE – The city had to deal with a slightly smaller problem of illegally-parked vehicles, during this year’s street-sweeping effort.

Between April 23 and July 13, the city issued 1,379 tickets for vehicles that were parked in violation of the temporary “No Parking” signs, down from 1,659 last year. The street-sweeping program began two weeks later than usual due to the weather.

The city said street sweeping machines will still be out from time to time for individual service requests, but these do not require parking restrictions.

The spring street-sweeping program sees material picked up from 659 km of roads around the city. It prevents the sand, dust, and debris from ending up in the Oldman River. It also reduces dust.
