TABER – Two Lethbridge residents accused in a violent home invasion last week in Taber remain in custody, as they work to retain legal counsel.

Tuesday morning, July 17, 22-year-old Heinrich Froese and 28-year-old Stacey Leigh Carlson appeared briefly via CCTV in Taber Provincial Court from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, with representation from duty counsel.

It was explained that they are each working to hire lawyers, and both consented to remain in custody for the time being, without requesting a bail hearing. Their matters were then adjourned to July 24.

Taber Police report that they were called to a home along the 5800 block of 52 Street in Taber around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11. They say an 87-year-old man found at the scene had been beaten and robbed of money, and that he was transported to the Taber hospital and later the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

While there is currently no update on the victim’s status, police did note through a social media post on Friday, July 13, that they expected he would be released from hospital soon.

Later in the day, Froese and Carlson were arrested in Lethbridge and charged with break/enter commit robbery, aggravated assault, and assault with a weapon.
