Bulls shutout for fourth straight loss

LETHBRIDGE – After winning four games in a row to end last week, the Lethbridge Bulls have now dropped four-straight.

The latest setback came Friday night, July 27, as they fell 2-0 to the Edmonton Prospects at home.

Despite a solid night on mound, Bulls starter Liam Sabiston ended up taking the loss – giving up a single run in the eighth inning.

The winning run started with AJ Nitzschke opening the eighth with a single to centre field. Following a pitching change for the Bulls that saw Chris Stodolka inherit a runner, Tony Olson then blasted a triple to left field, driving in Nitzschke.

The real issue for Lethbridge was the electric performance from Prospects pitcher Rich Walker. He threw a complete game, only allowing three hits and a walk en route to the shutout. It’s part of an impressive season for the righty from Cove Creek, AZ, who now has five wins and three complete game shutouts, including a perfect game.

With the win, the Prospects now sit three games ahead of the Bulls for third in the Western Division standings. Edmonton (21-23) is 14.5 games back of Medicine Hat for first in the division, while Lethbridge (19-27) is a distant 17.5 behind.

The Bulls next chance to right the ship comes against the powerhouse Medicine Hat Mavericks (36-9), who have dropped back-to-back games themselves. First pitch goes at 7:05 at Spitz Stadium.
