LETHBRIDGE – Two unrelated issues conspired to plunge the University of Lethbridge main campus into darkness Thursday, Aug. 2.

According to the City of Lethbridge, there are two power lines that feed the campus. At 3:30 a.m. a piece of equipment failed, affecting the first line. Then the second went down around 5 a.m. as a result of a pole fire near a substation.

Repairs were expected to be complete by noon. However, the university announced full campus services would resume Friday, Aug. 3. In the meantime, the campus is closed. Activities at 1st Choice Savings Centre would continue where possible.

Otherwise, staff, students, and faculty are asked not to go to the campus. Campus Safety is the only department still operating.
