SOUTHEAST BRITISH COLUMBIA – The Sage Creek Fire has not grown in size, and remained entirely within the B.C. boundaries, according to the latest update provided Monday, Aug. 6 by the M.D. of Pincher Creek.
The municipal district has been receiving smoke from the fire, which is burning an area 1239 ha in size, approximately six km southwest of the Alberta boundary and 65 km southeast of Fernie, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service. The area is described as remote and no evacuations are in place.
An Alberta Incident Management Team is on site. More than 40 firefighters are on the scene, along with air tankers and helicopters. Another 18 personnel were expected to arrive Tuesday, Aug. 7.
British Columbia says a modified response is being used, with a combination of suppression, monitoring, and management to contain and steer the fire. One forest service road is closed.
