Lethbridge hosting upcoming Men’s and Women’s Canadian Slo-pitch Championships

Aug 8, 2018 | 2:30 PM

LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge has over 150 recreational slo-pitch teams playing throughout the summer at city schools and down in Softball Valley, with people from all walks of life, age groups, and backgrounds coming together to take part.

From March through to September each year, Lethbridge is a hotbed for slo-pitch and has one of the best facilities in Canada.

Lethbridge Dodgers Manager Kevin Chubb says the proof is in the pudding, as Lethbridge is hosting the upcoming 2018 Men’s and Women’s Canadian Slo-pitch Championships from Aug.12-18.

“This is not you’re your typical beer league, we’re talking about the best 34 men’s and women’s teams from across Canada coming to our city,” Chubb continued. “The quality of play is unbelievable and if you’ve never seen slo-pitch at this level I encourage you to do yourself a favour and come check out a game.”

The gate admission for the championships is free with an optional donation jar supporting Lethbridge Minor Softball.

All games will be taking place at the north end of the river bottom in Softball Valley. The week-long tournament is featuring the two-time Canadian champion Alberta Oilmen as well as the upstart local favourites Lethbridge Dodgers.

On the women’s side, organizers say you can look to the Alberta Carnage to make some noise along with the local Lethbridge Jabobs club.

Preliminary rounds run from Sunday through Thursday with playoffs starting on Friday morning next week.

A release states that local businesses have stepped up for the championship and $4 from every preliminary round home-run on the grandstand diamond will be donated to the Lethbridge Food Bank.
