Interfaith Food Bank and Co-operators Bridge Insurance supporting Back to School Programs

LETHBRIDGE – Local agencies have expanded the capacity of Back to School programs since 2013 by working with local school districts, and many other groups, to get school supplies to schools where they can then get into the hands of kids that need them most.

This annual collaborative effort has now become the main venue for supporting families as they prepare for kids to return to school and provides not only back to school supplies, but also connections with local community support ranging from health and wellness to recreational activities.

A release from the food bank states donations will be recruited throughout the summer, and agencies are hoping to have most supplies in by Aug. 17 to allow adequate time for distribution before the first day of school.

In addition to accepting school supplies on-site at the food bank, the Interfaith Food Bank has announced supplies can be dropped off at the Co-operators Insurance – Bridge Insurance Agencies head office at 3226 Fairway Street South.

This year, Interfaith Food Bank will focus again on recruiting lunch kits and healthy back to school snack items such as granola bars, fruit cups, juice boxes and fresh fruits and vegetables, and will lend all of their Back to School support to the local collaborative efforts.

While the Food Bank will still ensure all school supply donations make their way to schools, Interfaith has committed to providing 1200 children with lunch kits and are encouraging community members to donate.
