Wildfire contained near the Crowsnest Pass

CROWSNEST PASS – A wildfire burning east of the Crowsnest Pass is being held by emergency response crews and is no longer considered a threat, according to an update from Alberta Emergency Alert.

It is approximately two to three kilometres northeast of the Leitch Collieries on the south facing slope of the Livingstone Range.

“It’s being engaged right now by air-attack – primarily a combination of tanker and bucket drops,” explained Crowsnest Pass CAO Patrick Thomas. “It’s responding well to these efforts, and at this time, the Municipality has stood down our structural fire fighting crews.

“Ourselves and the M.D. of Pincher Creek both put out an Evacuation Alert for residents in the area, given that we were unsure of how the fire was going to respond,” continued Thomas. “At this point, in the Crowsnest Pass, we’ve taken down our Evacuation Alert, short of something substantially changing.”

Thomas stated that conditions in the municipality are very dry, and that anyone in or passing through the area needs to be extremely cautious. He added that you should call 310-FIRE (3473) or 911 immediately if you see smoke.

There is currently no indication as to the cause of the fire.
