Cavendish Farms project boosts July building permits

LETHBRIDGE – A not-unexpected industrial project led the way in July building permit numbers in Lethbridge.

The city issued 182 permits with a total value of $69 million, up from $17 million during the same month last year. Much of that is due to the new Cavendish Farms plant being constructed in Sherring Industrial Park. A permit for a $31.2 million building was issued in July.

The total investment by Cavendish in the new plant is expected to be $360 million.

The other large permit was for a City of Lethbridge maintenance building at 600 Scenic Dr. N. worth $19.3 million.

The total value of building permits issued so far this year is close to $149 million, still well behind last year’s $248 million. Roughly half of last year’s total to date was in the government/institutional new building category, which has not yet seen any permits this year.
