VIDEO: Lundbreck Falls cliff jumpers caught on video

CROWSNEST PASS – The distance from the top of Lundbreck Falls to the dark water below is 12 metres, or just shy of 40 feet.

And there are fences around the top of the falls to prevent people from getting too close to the edge.

But that didn’t stop three teenaged daredevils from going over the fence and doing it anyway over the weekend.

Concerned citizen Jake Bergen video taped the three from various vantage points, hoping that no one got hurt.

In the short videos, the three can be seen doing backflips; appearing to land close to the sharp rocks below. They’re also jumping off the top of the falls.

LNN spoke with Crowsnest Pass RCMP Corporal Joshua Atkinson who says, while it’s not illegal to jump off the cliffs, it can be dangerous.

“The fences in that area are there for safety. For most people who want to view the falls.”

He adds that if anyone appears to be intoxicated while jumping, they can call police.

“I guess if you’re concerned, what I would suggest is just speaking with the individuals that are doing it and making sure that they’re doing it in a safe manner. If they’re doing it under the influence of anything where you fear they are going to cause themselves an issue, we don’t mind responding and having a chat with them as well.”

In 2010, a kayaker who intentionally went over the falls died, after he was caught in a current at the base.
