NHL training camps will include four Hurricanes players
LETHBRIDGE – Four members of the Lethbridge Hurricanes are among 116 Western Hockey League players attending NHL rookie and training camps.
Hurricanes captain Jordy Bellerive is one of them. The forward was directly signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins last year. His teammate, defenceman Calen Addison is also in Penguins camp after being drafted 53rd overall.
Goaltender Akira Schmid, a fifth-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils, is attending their camp, while defenceman Igor Merezhko is taking part in Calgary Flames camp as a free agent.
Overall, 73 draft selections from the WHL are attending NHL camps. Seven were signed directly, six are free agents, and 30 were invited. The list is comprised of 57 forwards, 45 defencemen, and 14 goalies.
