New Royal Alberta Museum to open in downtown Edmonton Oct. 3

EDMONTON —  The new Royal Alberta Museum is to open its doors in three weeks in downtown Edmonton to officially make it the biggest such facility in Western Canada.

Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda says the museum will open on Oct. 3 with six days of free admission through to Oct. 8.

The $376-million facility covers 40,000 square metres, including 7,600 square metres of exhibition space.

There will be more than 5,300 objects on display in rooms dedicated to human history and natural history along with a children’s area and bug gallery.

There will be a free admission space to the Manitou Stone, which is sacred to First Nations.

Once the admissions kick in, the one-day price for an adult ticket will be $19 and $48 for families, and there will also be other special price discounts and promotions.
