PINCHER CREEK – A 30-year-old man has been charged with one count of arson, after a fire was started near the Crowsnest Pass Hospital.

Cpl. Chris Smith says the fire began around 1:30 p.m. Aug. 9 but was quickly extinguished. Four hectares were burned near the hospital and east towards Blairmore. No buildings or property were damaged.

Alberta Forestry initiated an investigation prior to RCMP and found the fire to be human-caused. An investigation was then launched by police Aug. 16.

Mark Daniel Foucault of Blairmore has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Pincher Creek Court Sept. 25.
