Boil Water Advisory for part of Lethbridge County remains after repairs to water line

LETHBRIDGE – While repairs have been completed on a Lethbridge County water line, the County is still asking some users to continue boiling their water.

According to the Lethbridge North County Water Co-op’s website, the potable water line was cut roughly one mile east of the Boon distribution vault at around 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 – prompting Alberta Health Services to issue the Boil Water Advisory for 180 water users.

In a media release from Lethbridge County, they say water samples have been taken since the line was repaired but test results likely won’t available under Thursday or Friday, meaning the advisory needs to remain in place for the time being.

Affected residents are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before consuming it. That includes drinking, brushing teeth, cleaning raw foods, preparing infant formula, and making ice. When washing hands, AHS suggests using soap with water, then drying your hands and using hand sanitizer.

It was also stated by the County that Iron Springs and Turin were isolated from the affected line and are operating from reservoirs. Those communities are not under the advisory, however, residents are asked to conserve water. The truck fill stations in both hamlets will be closed until the water is deemed safe for consumption.
