RED DEER — The Town of Taber has been recognized at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association conference in Red Deer.

During the conference, the town received an AUMA Sustainability in Action Award for its Municipal Solid Waste initiative. The award was handed out in the Population 2,500-10,000 category.

According to a news release from the town, since the initiative was started two years ago, it has resulted in a 75 per cent diversion rate, compared to 6 per cent prior to the program’s start.

“I would like to thank our Town Administration for their dedication towards the continual implementation of our Municipal Solid Waste Initiative, said Mayor Andrew Prokop in a statement. “This AUMA award is also a testament to the public’s cooperation and we are appreciative of their continued efforts.”
